One of many UFO-shaped clouds noticed near the Keck Observatory

Unusual UFO-shaped clouds had been noticed over the Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa volcanoes by area observatory employees in Hawaii final week.

Employees on the W. M. Keck Observatory photographed the flying saucer shapes within the sky that are lenticular clouds, they’re typically shaped by the downwind of hills or mountains.

“We noticed some UFOs at the moment!” Writes the Observatory on Twitter. “Or slightly, their doppelgangers. Take a look at these beautiful pictures a number of Keckies took of flying saucer-shaped lenticular clouds hovering close to Maunakea and Mauna Loa. Did you see them too?”

What are Lenticular Clouds?

Lenticular clouds are identified for his or her curved, flying saucer-like look and are usually discovered at heights of 6,500 to 16,400 toes (2,000 to five,000 meters).

They’re often discovered floating over a mountain prime or mountain ridge. They’re shaped within the troposphere, the bottom area of Earth’s environment when it’s on the cusp of saturation.

When air flows over the mountain tops, it offers sufficient cooling to achieve saturation and for a cloud to kind. Because of this air is consistently flowing via it. As soon as the air sinks once more, it turns into hotter and drier, leaving saturation and turning into invisible as soon as extra.

Whereas they seem static, the sturdy winds flowing via them imply that pilots will keep away from flying close to lenticular clouds due to the turbulence related to their presence.

Deborah Byrd of EarthSky says: “These lens-shaped clouds usually kind the place steady moist air flows over a mountain or a variety of mountains.

“When this occurs, a collection of large-scale standing waves might kind on the mountain’s downwind aspect. If the temperature on the crest of the wave drops to the dew level, moisture within the air might condense to kind lenticular clouds.”

Lenticular clouds generally resemble the form of alien craft and they’re believed to be the most typical rationalization for UFO sightings internationally.
